Translation request into Hebrew

[edit]

See my reply at User talk:Deborahjay#Translation request into Hebrew. Of concern is the lack of references for the Happy Merchant WD item. I'm willing to follow up on that, though my unfamiliarity with meme resources will no doubt hinder me. Likewise the WD item for Mas-Kom-Yah is poorly supported with references, though I can already patch in more content. Thank you for contacting me, and I hope our mutual efforts are productive. A tag has been placed on Category:1931 in Azerbaijan indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 16:42, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Liz.
Thank you for alerting me. I have added
Category:1931 in Azerbaijan in Category:1931 establishments in Azerbaijan, which I both created today. I however forgot to add it, until this tag reminded me. Can you remove the tag, now that the category is no longer empty?

hi - please make a formal move request — kwami (talk) 10:48, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Kwamikagami.
How do I do that?
Why does User:Station1 contest the Hawaiian language spelling of Hawaiian place names, even though Hawaiian orthography for place names (in official documents, place signs, etc.) is official policy of the State of Hawaii?
He/she claims that it is controversial, but in Hawaii it is not and it is not even an issue there. I believe Wikipedia administrators should have the final say on this (I don't know how these things are solved in Wikipedia).

yeah, it's a pain, but go to Wikipedia:RMPM and follow the directions there
your main argument would be MOS:HAWAII, as that's the governing guideline — kwami (talk) 12:46, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oratas, I realize you are a new editor, so I will try to help explain as best I can, mostly by linking to pages where you can find the information you need. The instructions for making a formal move request for one page are at WP:RM#CM. I contest the Hawaiian-language spelling of place names because this is the English-language Wikipedia and our policy at WP:ENGLISHTITLE is to use English for article titles, not Hawaiian or any other language. You might be right that it's not controversial in Hawaii, but we are a worldwide encyclopedia and Hawaiian orthography is meaningless for most readers who aren't from Hawaii. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be mentioned or explained in the body of the article, but should not be the title. Not everyone agrees with me on that point, but it is a controversial topic and for that reason must be discussed, not just moved by one person. Another point is that we do not care about official documents or official policy or street signs. We care about the WP:COMMONNAME used by English-language WP:reliable sources. The last point is that administrators do not have the final say (in most cases). Wikipedia operates by consensus. If you start a discussion and you get a consensus that agrees with you, the article will be moved; if not, it will stay as it is. I hope this is helpful. Feel free to ask me any questions. Station1 (talk) 12:58, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
Yes, in section MOS:HAWAII#Article names, the Hawaiian naming convention is clearly stated. So moving the Hawaiian article names to its Hawaiian orthography was correct and didn't violate any Wikipedia policy. I believe the issue should be settled by Wikipedia administrators.
