Question from Purple.lightened (09:24, 2 May 2025)
hello. how to edit in a general page --Purple.lightened (talk) 09:24, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Purple.lightened. I will add some information about this to your user talk page. The post will contain links (in blue) to other Wikipedia pages that contain more specific information. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:35, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Twins247 (21:37, 5 May 2025)
Hello, how do I create my citations --Twins247 (talk) 21:37, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Twins247. There's some information on how to format and add citations to an article in Wikipedia:Citing sources and Help:Referencing for beginners. I will also add a general information template to your user article talk page. The template contains (blue) links to some other general informational pages. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:22, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from احمد ضاوي (09:10, 17 May 2025)
- Sorry احمد ضاوي, but I can't really understand what you posted. Google Translate translate's your post as being about something (a replacement window for a truck) completely unrelated to English Wikipedia. If you have a question about English Wikipedia and can post it in English, I can try to answer it. Otherwise, I can't help you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:04, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Andromarined (11:43, 17 May 2025)
When is it appropriate to remove a template from the top of an article? --Andromarined (talk) 11:43, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Andromarined. Assuming the templates you're asking about is a what is referred to as a "maintenance template", then look for a link in the template that says "Learn how and when to remove these messages" for some more information. For reference, maintenance templates are intended to let others know that someone feels there are issues associated with the article that need to be addressed; so, they can, in principle, be removed once the issue in question has been addressed. Anyone who has addressed the issue themselves, who feels the issue has been sufficiently addressed the issue by another, or feels there was no real issue to begin with may remove the template; however, it's generally a really good idea to leave a clearly worded edit summary explaining why. Now, if someone re-adds the template after you've removed it, it's best to use the article's corresponding talk page to discuss why. What you want to do is to avoid Wikipedia:Edit warring over any the removal of the template because that's most likely going to only lead to you, the others involved or everyone involved getting blocked or warned to stop by a Wikipedia administrator. For this reason, it's can be a good idea before removing a template to check the article's talk page (including any archived versions) to see whether it's previously been discussed or is currently under discussion.A caveat to all that's posted above is that you really should refrain from removing templates from articles in which Wikipedia:Conflict of interest or Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure might apply to you; in such cases, it's better to start a discussion about removing the template and the article's talk page and make a Wikipedia:Edit request. This will allow others (unconnected to the subject of the article) to assess the situation and opine as to whether the template can be removed. Finally, since your account seems new, I've added a template to your user talk page that contains some general information about Wikipedia. If you've got any additional questions about Wikipedia, you can ask for help at either Wikipedia:Help desk or Wikipedia:Teahouse. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:42, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Swap market (16:08, 22 May 2025)
Hi, i notice some companies have wikipedia pages, how can i do the same? --Swap market (talk) 16:08, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Swap market. I suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything because it summarizes some important things about Wikipedia that you might not know. Basically, for a Wikipedia to be written about anything, the subject of the article needs to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability; for companies and other organizations, more specifically, the subject would need to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). In addition, if you're connected (professionally, personally or both) to the company you'd like to create an article about, you should take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure because those pages contain information that might pertain to you situation. Finally, you might also want to take a look at Wikipedia:Ownership of content and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not if, by chance, your thinking Wikipedia might be a good way to promote the company you want to write about. If you have any questions about the above, you can ask them here below, but you can also ask them at either the Wikipedia:Help desk or the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Try to avoid asking the same questions in more than one place, though, because that can just can be confusing and lead to redundant answers. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:51, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from SEPthebrand (07:24, 27 May 2025)
hello! i have created my first article and i wonder if it will automatically be checked for publication or if there is something else i need to do? title is SEP (Social Enterprise Project) thankyou! --SEPthebrand (talk) 07:24, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi SEPthebrand. You tried to create an article on your user page, which is not really how a user page is intended to be used. For this reason, the page has already been tagged for speedy deletion. Generally, it's much better to create drafts in the draft namespace as explained in WP:DRAFTS or in WP:Articles for creation. However, it seems your account has also been blocked by a Wikipedia administrator named Cullen328. So, before you'll be able to do anything else, you're going to need to address the reasons why you were blocked. My advice to you is to put trying to create a new article about SEP on the back burner for the time being and instead focus on understanding why your account was blocked and what you need to do to get unblock. Taking a look at WP:UNBLOCK, WP:COI, WP:PAID and WP:NOT might help you better understand why your account was blocked. This block, for reference, prevents you from editing any Wikipedia pages other than your user talk page; so, don't worry about not being able to reply here. If at some point you're able to convince an administrator to unblock your account, you can then start asking questions at either WP:HELPDESK or WP:TEAHOUSE about how to create a draft and submit it for review. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:55, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Tkisbest (20:43, 29 May 2025)
Hi, I submitted that discussion in the Talk section for the Robinhood wikipedia. Am I able to make the change myself? --Tkisbest (talk) 20:43, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Tkisbest. Your edit request on at Talk:Robinhood Markets#updated photo has received one response so far; so, perhaps wait a bit longer bit longer to see how things play out as explained in Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Supplying photographs and media files before doing attempting to make the change yourself. The file you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (File:RH lockup black (1).png) has a couple of issues: it's lacking a copyright license, and it's still awaiting c:Commons:Volunteer Response Team verification. This could be why nobody has added the file to the article yet. Assuming you're the person who sent a c:Commons:Email templates/Consent email to VRT, please be patient: there tends to be more emails received than there are VRT members checking them. Once a VRT member reviews the email, they will add template c:Template:Permission ticket to the file's page if everything checks out. If, however, the VRT members finds something about the email to be insufficient, they will add the template c:Template:Permission received instead. In that case, the VRT will likely contact the email's sender by email to explain what's still needed. If a week or ten days pass and you still don't notice any action on the file, you can ask about it at c:Commons:Volunteer Response Team/Noticeboard. Please understand that VRT members are prohibitted from discussing specifics of the emails they've received with anyone other then their senders, and they will only discuss such specifics via email or in some other non-public way; VRT members can, though, discuss general things at the VRT noticeboard with anyone. Finally, I will add a template containing information for WP:COI/WP:PAID editors to your Wikipedia user talk page. Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are sister projects with some overlapping, but they're still separate projects with their own policies and guidelines. Since Wikimedia Commons is mainly intended to host files, it's main concern is c:Commons:Licensing and not so much things like conflict-of-interest or paid-contribution editing. Wikipedia, on the other hand, is really concerned with last two things; so, it's important to be familar with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines related to them. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:32, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. I made the request in the talk page for the Robinhood Markets page. Would that suffice to have the update made by another editor? The change is not related to the content of the page, rather just to have the company's new logo used. Tkisbest (talk) 21:42, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Tkisbest: I believe I've already answered this question above (see the second paragraph of my post), but I don't think you or anyone else should try to add that file to the article until the issues it has been flagged for on Commons are resolved. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:14, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
