Thank you very much for promoting the article to GA. It was tough as rightly said that mnay people had contributed to it with different formats. Can you kindly leave a message of this promotion to GA on our talk pages. Thanks for all the efforts you put in to review it.--Nvvchar. 00:21, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes indeed and I agree. And for the fact that moth Paris and Marrakech are highly complex cities, producing a comprehensive but concise article with high quality prose throughout is highly demanding!! Thanks for your review!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:33, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance: Ranavalona I

[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Ranavalona I know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on August 11, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 11, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Ranavalona I

Ranavalona I (c. 1778–1861) ruled the Kingdom of Madagascar from 1828 to 1861. After positioning herself as queen following the death of her young husband, Radama I, she pursued a policy of isolationism and self-sufficiency, reducing economic and political ties with European powers, repelling a French attack on the coastal town of Foulpointe, and taking vigorous measures to eradicate the small but growing Malagasy Christian movement. She made heavy use of forced labor to complete public works projects and to form a standing army that she deployed to pacify outlying regions of the island and expand the realm. European intermediaries unsuccessfully tried to use divisions between traditionalist and pro-European factions at court to hasten the succession of her son, Radama II. Her European contemporaries generally condemned her policies and characterized her as a tyrant at best and insane at worst, characterizations that persisted in Western scholarly literature until the mid-1970s. Recent research has recast Ranavalona's actions as those of a queen attempting to expand her empire while protecting Malagasy sovereignty against the encroachment of European cultural and political influence. Thanks! Hope you are enjoying your time in Madagascar! We could use photos of some towns and villages as well as lemurs hehe! Let me know when you want we to do the review.Tibetan Prayer 06:12, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do the GA review later on today. Can you find some info about Malagasy cinema to expand Cinema of Madagascar? Like most African nations I'm sure it's very small, but I'm pretty sure there is something to say about it. Thanks for all of your photos!Tibetan Prayer 10:12, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll definitely do the review later on today. Not sure why you asked Sabre to review it. I'd have done it a month ago but for the fact that you said you were in Madagascar for 4 weeks and didn't think you'd want to have to address GA points while on holiday. Apologies if you'd rather I had done it back then.Tibetan Prayer 12:26, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lemurbaby. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Ibitekerezo, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Jeremy112233 (talk) 20:52, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool update

[edit]

Hey Lemurbaby. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:45, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions

[edit]

Hi Jagwar, it was fascinating reading about the process of your development of the Malagasy Wictionary and Wikipedia. It's incredible what one dedicated and altruistic person with initiative and the right combination of knowledge can do for the benefit of others. I have a couple of questions for you.

1) I'm thinking of developing the article on Malagasy language with some of the resources I own, including books with a linguistic focus. But I'm no linguist, and I want to be sure I don't make mistakes. Would you be interested / willing to work with me on it to ensure the final article is complete and correct?
2) Would you mind if we get in touch by email or maybe on Facebook? I have an idea I wanted to discuss with you off WP. Lemurbaby (talk) 04:24, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lemurbaby, thank you for your comment on the blog.
To respond your first question, I am very interested in working with you on the Malagasy language article. I am sure your addition to the English language article aboout Malagasy language will be very interesting as well as your past -- and of very high quality -- contributions on Madagascar-related articles.
If you want to contact me just send me a mail by using the email user function of the English Wikipedia (it didn't enable it here, I don't know why...). Best regards, Jagwar - (( talk )) 12:37, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I sent you an email, looking forward to your thoughts. Lemurbaby (talk) 04:27, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jagwar, I hope you got my email a while back. We've missed the application deadline for this year, but if you'd like to be considered for next year just let me know. I'm happy to give you more details on how it all works. I realize it might seem weird to be "head-hunted" in this way, but for this type of opportunity nominations are only ever made by people like me who come into contact with people I think would be good candidates. Members of the band AmbondronA were selected by my colleagues a couple of years ago for this opportunity, and every year there are more. I think the work you've done to bring Malagasy language articles to Wikipedia deserves recognition. In the meantime, I'm hoping to get started on the Malagasy language article while in Washington DC in October. Hope to be in touch soon. Best, Lemurbaby (talk) 16:27, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've got your mail a few months ago, and replied it. You can consider me for next year. About it, I have one question: am I obliged to fill the nomination form in the US embassy of my country of citizenship? If the case, I won't be able to fill it, unless I can do it in an US embassy in my country of residence (France). The academic year has started so I'll be quite busy for the next 3 months. On Wiki, I am currently on mg.wikipedia doing some article translation and on Wiktionary helping the Tamil language community with my programming skills. Despite all this, I'll still try to find the time to do some work the article, your collaboration and recommendation will be welcome. Again, thank you for your interest in Madagascar. Presidential Council (Benin)

[edit]

Hello again, Lemurbaby. Thanks for agreeing to review Presidential Council (Benin) for GA status. Unfortunately, the nominator, User:QatarStarsLeague, has not edited in nearly a month, although when he stopped editing he had several article up as GANs. I noticed this when I reviewed Al-Mansuriya, which is very close to GA status already. Another article he nominated, French Sudan, was recently reviewed; I took the nomination over, making the all improvements requested by the nominator, and the article was promoted. (It was already quite close to GA status.) On the other hand, another of his articles, Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants, was also reviewed... but it needed extensive expansion. I don't have that expertise, so I chose not to get involved, and the GAN failed.

If you feel the Presidential Council (Benin) is nearly at GA level, I'll be happy to take the nomination over (at least, if QatarStarsLeague doesn't return). But if it's going to take a major extension or extensive rewrite, I'll probably pass on that. Just keep me in mind. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 15:00, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for reviewing and promoting the article. I would also appreciate it if you have some comments about what the article needs to be ready for a FAC. Mohamed CJ (talk) 06:42, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
