Reliable sourcing
[edit]Hi, I've come across major sourcing problems from one of your students, who is using Wikipedia mirrors to cite articles to support themselves. Have you taught them about reliable sources? I suggest they edit in sandboxes until they've grasped the basics under supervision. Fences&Windows 00:54, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for noticing this. I have addressed this with the class and reviewed reliable sources. I will look into this more and make sure that students link to Wikipedia pages when appropriate and do not cite them.Jskalski (talk) 17:39, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:I love Paris in the the springtime.jpg
[edit]
A tag has been placed on File:I love Paris in the the springtime.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Copyright violations/plagiarism by a student
[edit]Hello, I have removed the contributions of User:Eeettt2001 to Affect heuristic and Confidence as they included text directly copy-and-pasted from academic articles, without quotation marks. Additionally, the content was often put in places that worsened the overall quality of the article. While these contributions often included references to the copied text, directly copy-and-pasting content onto Wikipedia without quotation marks is unacceptable. See Wikipedia:Plagiarism for further information. Thanks, Wracking talk! 23:47, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!
[edit]Hello,
I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:
- Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
- Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
- Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List
Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents
Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:
- The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
- Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces
If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.
We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.
