Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

BuySomeApples (talk) 19:50, 18 April 2025 (UTC)Great work! It's been in the back of my head for a while, very glad to see someone else take this on and do such a good job of it. (I've got a draft going for Wincest, if that's something you'd like to help work on!) Rusalkii (talk) 20:19, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- You may also be interesting in nominating a hook from the article to run in the Did you know section of the main page. Obviously not necessary, but fun! Rusalkii (talk) 20:23, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Seconding the DYK idea. I'm making some tweaks to the Destiel page so that it's ready for DYK. The main thing would be figuring out a fun fact for the hook. Maybe finding a way to fit in superhell or just using the 200th episode would work. BuySomeApples (talk) 20:43, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Some very fun stuff about the tumblr reactions in this source, starting pg. 121, and some good content about how it affected the SPN fandom too. - actually, let me go drop some sources on the talk page, that's a better place for it. Rusalkii (talk) 20:52, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- I'd certainly be interested in a DYK proposal for Destiel, I created the page partially because I felt it was overdue. How long are hooks typically? I agree the superhell bit would probably be best, it's the most notable thing that happened. Also, good work on that Wincest draft. I was considering making one, but I couldn't find and RSs specifically covering that one, so good work on finding them. -Jessica3801 (talk) 23:50, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- 200 characters is the max, but ideally shorter: a short sentence is best. You could browse some recent high-performing hooks at Wikipedia:Did you know/Statistics/Monthly DYK pageview leaders to get an idea for the format. Rusalkii (talk) 00:04, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- How about something like "...that an angel was dragged to superhell after confessing his love to another man?" -Jessica3801 (talk) 01:00, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hooks that are just in-universe are usually no approved (WP:DYKFICTION). Rusalkii (talk) 01:17, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense. Maybe "...that 2019's most popular ship on Archive of Our Own ended with one of its characters being taken to superhell?" or "...that one ship got so popular questions about it were banned from a fan convention?" -Jessica3801 (talk) 03:57, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- I really like the second one, but the article says that it was "because they allegedly made Ackles uncomfortable", which is not quite because it was popular.
- And same with the second one: you need to make sure that everything you say is in the article, and it doesn't currently say anything about superhell, so that doesn't work currently.
- Hmm. What else? The Olive Garden/Chilis thing is funny but I can't quite think of a good phrasing. Rusalkii (talk) 04:14, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- For Olive Garden/Chilis, it could just be "...that Olive Garden and Chili's once got in a shipping war?" -Jessica3801 (talk) 00:35, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oh man. I dunno if that'll actually work since "shipping war" isn't something we should expect the average reader of the main page to understand, but it's great. If I were you I'd nominate it for DYK with that plus a couple more straightforward ones and see what the reviewers think (you can suggest multiple hooks, then people at DYK will choose which one they think works best). Rusalkii (talk) 02:23, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Awesome! Is there a specific place to propose or do I just go with Talk:Destiel? - Jessica3801 (talk) 22:35, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

DYK for Interface Interruption
[edit]On 23 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Interface Interruption, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 15-second commercial for a streaming service has been blamed for causing arguments and domestic violence? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Interface Interruption. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Interface Interruption), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I approved the DYK, and for some reason made a list of things that might be nice to fix. They are not necessary for the DYK, but you may want to fix them anyway. --GRuban (talk) 16:00, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
