Did Chantal (2025) become post-tropical or extratropical?
[edit]So I noticed the extratropical
parameter being used for the weather event infobox on Draft:Tropical Storm Chantal (2025). I checked the WPC advisories for Chantal, and it only said Chantal was post-tropical. Using this information, I made an edit that replaced the extratropical
with post-tropical
. Checking the draft again, I see that my edit was reverted for the reason (rv good faith, extratropical is the widely used parameter for many hurricanes). Seeing post-tropical
was used in the meteorological history on the October 2021 nor'easter as Wanda gave me the idea to ask you for help on which parameter to use for future edits to tropical/subtropical cyclone articles. So... did Chantal become post-tropical or extratropical? CasualCycloneTracker180897 (talk) 18:05, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oh wait... I just checked the glossary of tropical cyclone terms and it says that extratropical cyclones are a class of post-tropical cyclones. So I've revised my question to... did Chantal (2025) undergo extratropical transition or become a remnant low? CasualCycloneTracker180897 (talk) 18:45, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, he became a post-tropical cyclone according to the WPC Advisory. Since the WPC issued the latest advisory, it indicates that the storm has not completely dissipated. Note that "extratropical" and "post-tropical" are different terms—see Extratropical cyclone and Post-tropical cyclone. If the NHC/WPC stated that it became post-tropical, then the article should state that; if they stated it became extratropical, then that should be reflected in the article instead. Note that this information is still preliminary and not final—wait for the NHC's final report after the storm has fully dissipated. HurricaneEdgar 00:49, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for the information. Also, I hate to be pedantic (Wiktionary def.) in a way, but Chantal would be considered a female name because the NHC naming lists alternate between male and female names, with two male names Barry and Dexter being before and after Chantal on List 5 respectively. CasualCycloneTracker180897 (talk) 01:44, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- BTW, I suggest starting a discussion on the talk page, since the article seems to be involved in an edit war. I think it’s better to talk it out instead of just reverting edits to decide who’s right or wrong. HurricaneEdgar 01:51, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop deleting several paragraphs from the article for no reason. Please also do not change the dmy or mdy settings of an established article as such, unless there is a consensus to do so. 112.120.205.130 (talk) 10:32, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Deleting the paragraphs would reduce the meteorological history, which is why I tagged it for major expansion. As for the date format, we use MDY in the cyclone article based on its usage in some Northern Hemisphere articles, such as Tropical Storm Trami. I suggest expanding the meteorological history section, as you likely have a good understanding of how the storm developed. I also encourage you to create an account so that you can communicate with me and others if you're confused about how the mechanisms in the tropical cyclone basin work. Failed RfC
[edit]The request for comment (RfC) failed, and it's clear why — it was not carried out properly, despite a fellow editor @Redrose64: specifically asking you to follow the correct procedure since you initiated it. Additionally, you engaged in canvassing, which resulted in two editors expressing opposing views. Furthermore, you introduced information about ministers into a page specifically dedicated to Ahmed al-Sharaa, as is evident from your own comment. Hauskasic (talk) 18:26, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
