Because of Wikipedia:Risk disclaimer, this is my advice on quick-moving events.
- Wikipedia is a historical encyclopedia.
- Wikipedia is not a newspaper: Wikipedia is not a news source; it is not a good source for "Breaking News".
- Wikipedia:There is no deadline: Editors get no points for making an early edit and there is no added clout here for being first.
- Wikipedia:No original research: Editors don't need to add something just because they think or even "know" it's going to happen.
- Wikipedia:Ownership of content: Even early edits are open to other editors making drastic changes.
- Wikipedia:Summary style and Wikipedia:Writing better articles#Be concise: Avoid unnecessary formalism and excessive details.

templates FedRep
[edit]Hi. Looking for some help. When using templates for Current US Congress delegations EX: Template:FL-FedRep it still lists current congress as 118th. checked for all states and doing the same. do you know how to change this?
Thanks Tomrtn (talk) 14:16, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- That template, and the templates for the other states, uses {{Congressional Delegation}}. I've now changed it. —GoldRingChip 15:35, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Talk-page archiving
[edit]While gnoming, I noticed your user-talk archiver is mis-configured. In this edit, you changed the archive to point to "Example" rather than your own username. DMacks (talk) 03:15, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oh my, what a blunder!
Thank you. —GoldRingChip 13:31, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome! DMacks (talk) 14:28, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- @DMacks: and just like that, the archiving started working properly again. How, in your gnoming, did you find it?
- Another editor came to WP:HD to figure out why their talk-page archiving wasn't working. It was a similar problem. So I found and am now working my way through Category:Pages where archive parameter is not a subpage. I also pushed for a change in the config template so that this sort of mistake emits a visible red error message at the template location rather than simply an easily overlooked category tag with an understated name. Help on these talk page moves
[edit]I have come across a new editor who has moved complete article talk pages to "talk page archive 1" (or whatever number) but these moves are wiping out the talk page history. I went to their user talk and have asked them not to do any more of these moves so hopefully this editing will stop BUT... Now there are 5 mangled article talk pages - take a look at their editing history. I noticed you had edited Leonid Brezhnev recently, which is why I am asking for some admin help on Talk:Leonid Brezhnev and the 4 other mangled article talk pages:
If there are any talk page watchers who are admins hanging around (like maybe DMacks?) please have a go at getting these talk pages (and their histories) back to where they need to be because I have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance, - Shearonink (talk) 02:48, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
Anne of Denmark#Relationship with James - missing text
[edit]In this edit you tried to replace refs with sfn or some such, and were missing a closing }}. Then in this edit you tried to close, but closed badly(?), dropping a whole segment of text at beginning of section Relationship with James. Could you fix that? Do finds on the word "pressure" to locate the problem area. Shenme (talk) 03:12, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Shenme: Before my edits, much of the text was in <ref> markers. In my edits you note here, all I've attempted to do was to swap <ref> with {{Efn}}. Regardless, the whole segment of text remains in a note, just not a footnote. I've moved it all out of a note and into the main text, against the unknown intent of the previous editor who had put it in a note. How does it look? —GoldRingChip 12:22, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
