Welcome / nau mai

[edit]
Welcome / nau mai with the official WANZ Louise cake!

On behalf of Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ), kia ora, hello, kia orana, nǐ hǎo, talofa lava, bula vinaka, guten Tag, hola, malo e leilei, fakalofa atu, namaste, salâm, see tahay. Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might find helpful.

General
Specific to Aotearoa New Zealand

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, please see our help pages, and if you can't find what you are looking for there, please feel free to ask me on my talk page or place {{Help me}} on this page and someone will drop by to help. Again, welcome!

Thanks for your contributions to Fox Glacier. There are a few points to make:

  1. The username you have chosen may mean that you will have a conflict of interest in some areas of content about Fox Glacier (particularly about guiding). Please bear this in mind. Conflict of Interest editing is strongly discouraged. It is possible that your username may not comply with Wikimedia policy because it is too close to the name of a business. I will seek advice about this point.
  2. Please don't mark any edits as minor, unless they are no more than fixing a spelling error or adding a wikilink. Any other change of content is NOT a minor edit. It is not good practice to mark edits as minor when they are not, because this may mean that editors watching the page will miss a significant edit (if they have screened out minor edits in their watchlist). For reference, please see: WP:MINOR
  3. For any significant change in content, please try to provide a citation, from an independent and reliable published source. Changes that include factual content may be reverted if they are not supported by suitable citations. See: WP:RS

You are welcome to contact me via my talk page for assistance._Marshelec (talk) 00:35, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Marshelec is right. As there is a company with the name "Fox Glacier Guides", your username is way too close to that company. That violates WP:ORGNAME, in case you want to find out why this is a problem. Before you do anything else, please request for your username to be changed. Follow that link and then the instructions that you find there. Thus far, there isn't an issue. If you were to keep editing with your current username, you may get yourself into deep trouble. Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, team, club, organization, company, product, department, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
    • You are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually. Examples include: "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, department, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. 331dot (talk) 10:27, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your username suggests shared use and seems to be that of a business. 331dot (talk) 10:28, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
