Hi professor, I want to contribute to an article about the Chesapeake Bay area, nearby water sheds, or Maryland water/beach issues that may not be up to date in SWRE. I'm interested in Maryland because I'm from the Baltimore area! Lcaliii (talk) 00:49, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Chesapeake Bay Program has been around for a while and my guess is there is a lot on it... try to find a subtopic within it that is not well coverd Fmontalto (talk) 21:40, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas

[edit]

Hi! To me the most interesting part of the class has been the discussions about assigning a value to nature, the idea of nature or water having "rights", and how feasible it is to change our way of life to be working with nature rather than against it. If it is possible to write a page specifically talking about both sides of the discussion, that would be my interest. I also would be interested in doing research on how water affects Bucks County, where I am from (especially how it impacts the roads, as they are awful there). Elizsullivan (talk) 19:22, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I like the first idea! did you look in the nature-based solutions pages? Fmontalto (talk) 21:40, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Topic Ideas

Hi Professor,

I am interested in looking into water rights, scarcity, and other issues on Native American reservations in the United States. I was exploring the Wikipedia page on the Navajo Nation, which seems to have a lot of information but only a short section on water issues. I think there will be a lot of good sources to further explore this topic since it is the largest reservation in the country. Linnea.krall (talk) 23:37, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

that sounds very interesting.... are there references? Fmontalto (talk) 21:41, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. Montalto! I'm interested in editing pages surrounding green stormwater infrastructure and Philly's role in pioneering GSI. I also have an interest in environmental justice issues around flooding. I'm not fully sure yet so this is very subject to change. Sdao22 (talk) 23:56, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

see if there is something on Green city clean waters program Fmontalto (talk) 21:41, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Topic Thoughts

[edit]

Hi Professor,

I am interested in looking into historical issues with water that may have occurred in and around National Parks around the country. I am not fully sure how many articles there are that are specifically about the National Parks, but I am sure that there are articles regarding how the "identity" of water has changed as many of the National Parks transitioned from Native American land. Krieger4th (talk) 23:59, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

sounds interesting Fmontalto (talk) 21:37, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
i don't know much about this topic. Was there more water management when they were native land? or after? Fmontalto (talk) 21:42, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Professor,

I'm interested in creating a page for the Revere Chemical Superfund site and its impact on the surrounding waterways. The company disposed of chemicals into lagoons which it allowed to overflow into a creek. Its owner was the first person in PA to be convicted under the Clean Streams Act.

Another option could be a section on constructed wetlands to PFAS Remediation. Currently there is no mention on the main PFAS page or the one dedicated to remediation. The closest thing is a topic on hybrid methods. Luke3x33 (talk) 22:05, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

do they mention PFAS on pages about constructed wetlands? Are there references available on this?
Is there a page on the Clean Streams Act? Fmontalto (talk) 21:38, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The constructed wetlands page doesn't mention PFAS. I have a few references from seminar and could find a few more.
There is no page on the Clean Streams Act. Its just a PA state law. Luke3x33 (talk) 01:18, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Project Topic

I'm considering adding a "Stormwater Basins" section to the Green Stormwater Infrastructure page, under "Types of Green Infrastructure." I don't think I'll have any problems finding sources. Janejanex4 (talk) 20:05, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

that would be quite an omission if they don't have it there... did you try to look under detention basins? Fmontalto (talk) 21:39, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan/India/ Afghanistan water crisis

[edit]

Hello Professor, I am considering to work on water crisis in this region mentioned in the subject. I feel like there has also been a lot of disputes over the Indus river between Pakistan and India. Recently India has suspended Indus water treaty due to worsening political conditions and terror attacks in Kashmir, India. There might have been a lot of work done already on this but I feel like If I research more on it I might be able to make some good contributions. Also, if contributions to the Indus river are not possible I might just focus on Kabul river which flows into Pakistan from Afghanistan. Or I could find something on Afghanistan-Iran water crisis.

What is your opinion on it? Will exploring these topics serve the purpose of our class? Izharatta (talk) 18:57, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

sounds great Fmontalto (talk) 21:25, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Professor!

Some ideas that have been coming to mind for sustainable water resources engineering is flooding/droughts within India and their processes on what they do with the water/where it goes (was thinking about flooding in Kerela, India), factories water consumption use, wanting to look more into cloud farming, same with culverts and how it's use can be sustainable or helpful within the environment. These are just a few ideas that I have, not too sure which direction I should take. AdithyAbhi (talk) 16:23, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I like flooding in Kerela! Fmontalto (talk) 21:25, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
