Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. I had a quick search and found the following additional sources you might want to expand the article with:

However, only the Hockey New Zealand article can be considered "in-depth coverage", and that alone is not enough as it is from a source that isn't entirely independent of the subject. If you can find additional coverage that is more in-depth please add it to the article.

Also, just to temper expectations, I'll add that many New Zealand sportspeople are considered fairly notable in their local sporting community, but that does not mean they are notable enough for their own Wikipedia article. This may be one of those cases.

If you're looking for something to contribute around hockey in New Zealand, the article for the Black Sticks would really benefit from a section covering the history of the team, and the New Zealand Hockey Federation could also do with some expansion. In fact, I think we are sorely lacking a Field hockey in New Zealand article which could be split out of the NZHF article.
