A friendly request
[edit]Hi Dave,
I noticed, and appreciated your edits regarding citations, and grammar on the White Nancy article yesterday (or this morning?).
Today, I've done much bigger edits concerning the Reddish Vale article, which I'd like your help with please.
Also, I noticed that the Ashley, Cheshire one hasn't been cleaned up since my last edits regarding raw links.
Thank you, and best wishes! Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 22:05, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
Crag Hall
[edit]Hi Dave, Glad you liked the picture of Crag Hall. I was fortunate enough to stay there for a weekend, and had to badger all my fellow guests to move their cars off the drive so that I could get the shot. I also posted an interior shot on Commons, but then had misgivings as to whether the owners would be happy with publication of interior pictures. By the way, it seems there is a regular race from Crag Hall to the top of Shutlingsloe and back (for which the record is 15min 11s!) that might be worth mentioning, though it's likely that there are only web-sources to cite for that. catslash (talk) 15:12, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Catslash: No problem - I came across your photos by chance, as it happens, but by coincidence the Crag Hall article is the one I use as a template for infoboxes about listed buildings (my main area of interest). I think the original article had a poor shot I took years ago, which was subsequently replaced by someone else's slightly better one, but yours was better still. I doubt the owners will mind - it's good advertising. Thanks for posting it. Dave.Dunford (talk) 22:11, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
4th Duke of Devonshire
[edit]The article on Chatsworth House specifically covers the 4th Duke's redesign of the house and its gardens: "The 4th Duke made great changes to the house and gardens. He decided the approach to the house should be from the west. He had the old stables and offices as well as parts of Edensor village pulled down so they were not visible from the house, and replaced the 1st Duke's formal gardens with a more natural look, designed by Capability Brown, which he helped bring into fashion." - And all the other Dukes of Devonshire are also mentioned in the Chatsworth article, and their articles all mention Chatsworth. There is no hierarchical relationship. You are still using categories as tags, which is expressly discouraged, per WP:CATSPECIFIC: "Since all categories form part of a tree-like hierarchy, do not add categories to pages as if they are tags."
