How should I maintain neutrality when editing articles that indirectly affect me? To take a recent example, the article over at the 2025 India-Pakistan standoff is currently in a bad way. Yet how can I edit it without having my bias leak through? Should I edit it at all, or let people who haven't got a horse in this particular race sort things out?

Hi @Dodecathorpe, the Indian-Pakistan conflict is a designated contentious topic and carries its own list of restrictions (see Wikipedia:Contentious topics/India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan). Focusing on the sources instead of the event at hand is a good way to distance yourself from bias. If your edit is reverted, discussions and consensus-building should be the first step. If you feel like you are getting too heated, or you are spending too much time on the topic, I strongly recommend that you step away and cool down for a few days. A rule of thumb: if other editors can perfectly predict which way you will !vote in discussions, you are not editing neutrally. Ca ^{talk to me!} 03:37, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for providing those links. This is a tough case because Mrs. Barnes-Lentz's notability relies heavily on biomedical claim, and "biohacking" is a fringe movement (WP:FRINGE). Knowing the harm incorrect medical information, people in the past created extremely stringent rules for sourcing medical claims (See WP:MEDRS). Normally, I would not request this, but I don't think I can accept the article without academic sources (not just human interest articles) explicitly discussing Mrs. Barnes-Lentz.

I will also note that all of the links (or at least some dozen I checked) rely heavily on her own words without independent research. This Independent article, I believe, is the only article that provided some critical perspective on the issue.

To get to the point, this topic is a Neutral Point of View nightmare, and I do not recommend it as your first article. Ca ^{talk to me!} 22:46, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
