Please help me with...
Hi - Sir Herbert Thompson (my grandfather, finally on Wikipedia!) and trying to get the references right. Nearly there but could do with some handholding. Brayneworker (talk) 11:52, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- You've asked on the article's talk page, which is good, and I see another editor is working on the article right now. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:19, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi and thanks for coming back. Really struggling at the moment, as most of the data in this article comes from thompson's autobiography, admittedly self-published but absolutely accurate for all the detail. As his grandson, and editor of the book, I know his story very well. I have included enough third-party sourcing to confirm things like knighthood and appointments, and am not sure how to take this further to generate all those inline references. Grateful for all advice. Brayneworker (talk) 14:33, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there! Given that you are Thompson's grandson, please read Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 15:11, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- And thanks for that headsup on the COI. Given that all the info in this article is factual and about a figure, I would submit, of genuine public interest, what might you advise in how to take this forward? I would be happy of course for this to be peer-reviewed if possible. I would add that there is no editorial content in there from me other than having edited (purely stylistically) my grandfather's autobiography, written in his final years. Brayneworker (talk) 15:19, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- One of the first things to do right now would be adding in-text citations to help verify information in the article. You may also want to go through and make sure you maintain a neutral point of view (NPOV) throughout. Writing with NPOV is challenging and even more so when you have a COI, which is part of the reason we recommend against COI-editing. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:47, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll give that a go, though not sure at this early point quite how to do that. All will unfold! Brayneworker (talk) 20:53, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

As you were having trouble, you asked for help and two editors (me and User:Significa liberdade) came to help clean up Sir Herbert Thompson. Yet you reverted the fixes we did. Twice you reverted me. Please check out MOS:CURLY and MOS:BOLD and be mindful of the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Thanks! Masterhatch (talk) 15:08, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- My many apologies - as a newbie, I hadn't realised that you'd made fixes. Feel free please to reinstate and I'll not change anything further. Brayneworker (talk) 15:15, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
