Hi Barrett, an editor here posted a note about your article on the WP:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard asking to look into the article about you. However, it does not appear anyone has responded and the note is a bit vague. What I think would be helpful is for you start a discussion on the article's talk page, Talk:Barrett Brown, similar to what you did at WT:WikiProject Anarchism. A big advantage is it will keep the discussion part of the article's history rather than scattered on other pages which no one down the road will be able to find. I have added the article to my WP:watchlist but once you post there, if you do not hear anything in a couple days, post a note on my talk page (click the "talk" link by my signature) to remind me. - I'll go ahead and do that, thanks. BarrettLBrown (talk) 16:48, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
Guidance
[edit]WP:FAQ/Article subjects has some good guidance but also suggest reading Wikipedia's WP:Biographies of living people policy (like around nap time) as it is one of the core policies to which everyone must adhere. As far sources, WP:RSP has a list of commonly used/discussed sources and the community's reliability assessment to help you determine if Wikipedia has already assessed a source. It is not an exhaustive list but a good quick go-to. Also, a matter of a "paper work", you do need to declare your WP:conflict of interest though it is pretty obvious. If you don't mind, I can post the declaration for you on your Userpage so you don't have fuss with figuring out how. Just let me know if that's ok with you. S0091 (talk) 19:25, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Will look at the policy now. I'm actually going to continue to refrain from even touching the page myself at all, even for minor things, simply because I don't think it's appropriate to do so, but if I still need it for contributing to the talk pages and so forth, yes, please do post it for me as I'm still getting the hang of the formatting and all that. Done but you still should not edit the article directly. While minor copy editing and removal of blatant vandalism is allowed, most editors do not take kindly to folks editing articles that are about them and they generally get reverted anyway so it is best to continue to engage on the talk page. - Hi Barrett, I think all the major issues have been addressed, at least for the time being. I will try to keep and eye out for next couple days in case you have additional concerns but after that you should make formal WP:edit requests which will flag it. You might find the WP:Edit Request Wizard helpful and you are also welcome to post a note at WP:WikiProject Anarchism to notify editors there you made a request (no need to repeat the request there though). My best advice for making requests is to be concise. If there are multiple issues and/or additions, make separate requests. It is not uncommon for requests to get backlogged and take a couple months or so for them to be answered with the easier ones being picked up first. If there are major issues, similar to the concerns you initially raised about accusations of sexual harassment, post a note at WP:BLPN. If you have general questions, you can ask the Teahouse. - Thanks again for your assistance with this. Also, I have a more recent photo to use at top, from a talk I gave in London last year (the current photo is from 2017). Like the existing one, it was taken by a friend. Do I just need to submit it to wikimedia or some such? BarrettLBrown (talk) 20:26, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
- Images and copyright are my kryptonite (heh, a rhyme). I do know generally the photographer owns the copyright so I suggest asking your friend if they will upload it using the WP:File upload wizard (they do not need to use their real name). There are two options, freely licensed or non-free. Free is releasing it under CC-BY-SA, which means it can be used for any purpose, I personally suggest non-free which limits its use to only the English Wikipedia (or maybe other Wikipedia languages) but you and your friend may be fine with the photo being out in the wild.
