Antonio Lysy (1963-2024) was an Italian-born American cellist. He became an internationally-known soloist and pedagogue. He was a faculty member of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music from 2003 to 2023.
Early life and education
[edit]Lysy was born in Rome, Italy to Argentine violinist Alberto Lysy and Benedetta Origo, daughter of Iris Origo.
Career
[edit]Performing
[edit]Lysy performed as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Zagreb Soloists, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra among other groups. His performances have been featured on BBC Radio and CBC Radio.
Teaching
[edit]In 2003, Lysy was appointed as Professor of Cello at the University of California, Los Angeles's music department (now the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music). He also became the director of the school's chamber music department known as "Camarades." Lysy was previously a professor at McGill University for 15 years and at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland.
