Nana Ama Poku is a Ghanaian corporate executive who is currently the Deputy Managing Director of the Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG).[1] She is also the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of The Ghana Export Import Bank (EXIM) having served for four years from March 2017 till October 2021.[2][3] She is a Member of the Trade Finance Technical Working Group (Ghana) for the operationalization of the Africa Free Trade Continental Area (AfCFTA). With a unique blend of across division/department oversight in Development Finance, Policy Banking and Commercial Banking, Nana Ama is a seasoned leader adept at corporate strategy execution at the C-Suite level.
Background and Education
[edit]Nana Ama attended St Louis Secondary School for her ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level qualifications. She gained admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Sciences in 1999. She then pursued a Master of Arts (MA) in Marketing Communications from the Westminster Business School in London (UK) graduating in 2001.[4] Nana Ama subsequently gained admission in 2008 to the University of Ghana Business School, Legon for an Executive Master of Business Administration in Entrepreneurial Management (EMBA) graduating in 2010. In May 2024, she was elected Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK (FCIM) and subsequently a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (FCIMG) in July 2024.[5]
Career
[edit]Nana Ama commenced her Banking career at First Atlantic Bank Ltd (FABL) in February 2002. She worked for fourteen years gaining rich across department experience in banking operations, risk management, SME and Corporate Banking, branch management, support for non-bank financial institutions and final Head of Department for Financial Institutions. In 2017, she was appointed as the first Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Banking) of the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM), in which role she was responsible for executing set targets towards achieving the Bank’s strategic objectives. Nana Ama played a pivotal role in the operationalization of the Ghana EXIM Bank which as at the first quarter of 2017 had been newly designated a Bank from the merger of three agencies namely Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF), Export Finance Company (EFC) and Eximguaranty Company Ltd (ECL).[6][7]
A firm believer in a thriving private sector as the booster of economic growth, her role as a key player in Development Finance in Ghana enabled her gain extensive insight in end-to end financing support for non-traditional export, agriculture production, agriculture processing, import substitution, strategic importation and export trade. In January 2022, she was appointed as the first Deputy Managing Director responsible for Corporate Resources at Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) where she oversees core support functions (including Product Development and Customer Experience) for the achievement of the Bank’s strategic objectives.
Personal Life
[edit]Nana Ama is married with 3 children. She is a devoted Christian, and her hobbies include cross word puzzles, watching beauty pageants and reading.
