About Me

[edit]

Well since I couldn't find any {{InfoBox:RetiredOldFart}}I guess I'll do this free style.

My full name is Matthew A. Sicking. Call me Matt.

Born:8 March 1949 Raised in St. Ann, MO, a suburb of St. Louis, MO during a time when everyone had big families. Attended St. Gregory, a Catholic parochial grade school, McBride HS, a Catholic college prep all boys high school, and Washington University School of Engineering, majoring in Applied Math and Computer Science, with a minor in Linguistics.

My residences, throughout my life have been in the St. Louis City and County. (Are you bored yet?)

If you've gotten this far, you must have a reason. If I can help, feel free to email me at matt@sickingfamily.com

Upon graduation (1971) I hired in as an Engineer in the Computer Aided Applications team at McDonnell Douglas, with responsibilities of training and consulting with the aerospace engineers on the use of newly introduced computer technology, most specifically Computer Aided Design. My entire career has revolved around CAD and associated technologies - CAM, CAE, ECAD, and PDM. Although I never resigned or was fired or laid off, by the time I retired in 2016, I managed to have worked for seven companies due to mergers and acquisitions: McDonnel Douglass, GM, EDS, Unigraphics Solutions, EDS (again), Bain Capital, and Siemens. During those years I served in support, software development, marketing, product Management, Technical Sales and Customer Support. My last position before retirement was a VP of the Global Technical Access Center (Technical Support of the Engineers and manufacturing engineers using our products.)

My outside interests are somewhat eclectic. Recreationally, I've been active in amateur softball, volleyball, Contract Bridge and Backgammon. Currently I'm a very active and avid Pickleballer.

Intellectually my interests, all non-professional, include webpage design (mostly my family webpage, sickingfamily.com, linguistics, philosphy theology, humor, puzzles , family (7 kids, 16 grandkids). I would love to add Wiki page design to my resume, but my initial foray into this realm, Draft:William Cullen McBride High School, has been somewhat frustrating. The depth and breadth of Wikipedia documentation along with the detailed requirements being so easy to run afoul of, have resulted in a rather slow learning curve.

Musically I am bereft of talent, but I'll listen to just about anything by Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Band, Leonard Cohen, Keb Mo (sic) and anyone whose lyrics read as poetry. Speaking of poetry, I recommend Saul's Death by Joe Haldeman

Lots of other minor interests.
