Ryan's Cookie Box is a Not For Profit charity situated in Crossgar, Northern Ireland. Ryan Bogues, who lives with Down Syndrome, began his initiative ‘Ryan’s Cookie Box’ in April 2015, cooking baked goods every month, and raising money for charity through an honesty box placed at the end of the lane outside his family home.[1] The Crossgar man, aged 30, has raised more than £80,000 for local, national, and international charities with 'Ryan’s Cookie Box' to date, which will celebrate 10 years in April, 2025. [2]

Ryan’s Cookie Box is a well-loved fixture in the community with generous customers coming from all over Northern Ireland to try Ryan’s bakes and donate to charity. Supporters also donate fruit, jam jars, and local eggs to support Ryan and his Cookie Box team, derived of supportive family members with their cakes, jam, jellies, and chutneys.[3]

At the age of 24, Ryan Bogues was awarded Young Fundraising Volunteer of the Year at Northern Irelands Institute of Fundraising Awards. The Awards, which took place on 6th June 2019, celebrated the teams, individuals and organisations that raise millions of pounds for good causes across Northern Ireland every year.[4] Furthermore, he was shortlisted for a Pride of Britain award in 2020. [5]

Nadine Campbell, Chair of the Institute of Fundraising NI, and Head of Fundraising , Age NI added:

"He is a truly remarkable young man with such a passion for cooking for good. The funds he has raised have no doubt made a significant impact on the lives of many across Northern Ireland".[6]

In 2019, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed Ryan in a personal letter stating:

“I know you do this with no thought of praise or reward, but allow me to offer my own recognition of how your inspirational fundraising efforts have done so much to support cancer and dementia charities in Northern Ireland.Your service exemplifies the British spirit of generosity and philanthropy, which brings out the best in us all.”[7]

Ryan has spent the last two months supporting ShelterBox which provides emergency shelter and supports people all over the world who have had to flee their homes because of conflict or disaster.  As well as raising thousands of pounds for ShelterBox, Ryan regularly fundraises for Marie Curie, the ADSUM Foundation (which provides essential services in Madagascar), Ballynahinch Food Bank, and The Downpatrick Steam Railway.[8] The money he has raised has also paid for a toilet hut in the Democratic Republic of the Congo - a lifeline for a family of faraway strangers. [9]

Ryan continually works to support as many diverse charities as he can through his baked goods, coming up to his 10 year anniversary.
