Charlotte Borghesi

Charlotte Borghesi is a British-born, Dubai-based entrepreneur, educational strategist, and competitive sailor. She is the Founder and Managing Director of Kidzink, as well as Founder of Koda (Kidzink Office of Design + Architecture), both acclaimed firms that specialize in the design and manufacture of educational environments. She is internationally recognized as the first female skipper to win the SB20 World Championship (Open Division) in 2020, and later, in 2024, as the SB20 Women’s World Champion, cementing her legacy as a pioneer in high-performance sailing.

Early Life and Education

Born in Britain, Charlotte Borghesi was raised in a family that valued creativity, adventure, and resilience. Her international exposure and multidisciplinary upbringing led to a unique blend of artistic and strategic thinking. She moved to Dubai, UAE, where she pursued her professional ambitions in business, design, and sport.

She holds a Master's in Education from Middlesex University Dubai (2018–2020) and completed executive education at Harvard Business School in Leading Change & Organisational Renewal (2014).

Career

Before founding Kidzink, Charlotte had a distinguished corporate career spanning nearly two decades across the FMCG and healthcare sectors. She served as General Manager for Mars Gulf Countries (2014–2017), where she oversaw massive regional operations and led production of chocolate products across the Gulf. Prior to that, she held the role of Vice President of Marketing for Mars Middle East, Turkey & Africa (2011–2014), where she was instrumental in launching major campaigns and expanding the reach of beloved chocolate brands.

Earlier in her career, she spent nearly 13 years at Reckitt Benckiser, holding leadership positions such as Vice President & Regional Marketing Director for India & South Asia, Global Brand Marketing Director, and European Category Business Manager. She led the marketing of key health brands, including Dettol, and gained international recognition for her impactful advertising strategies. Her early roles in the UK and France helped build her foundational expertise in global marketing and sales.

Founding Kidzink: Building a Global Educational Design Brand

In 2017, Charlotte founded Kidzink by acquiring a small, struggling nursery in Dubai, which she transformed into a platform for educational design and innovation. Under her vision, Kidzink evolved into a vertically integrated design and manufacturing company with in-house capabilities ranging from spatial planning and product prototyping to full-scale production and installation.

Kidzink is known for:

  • Designing modular and customizable furniture tailored to early years, K-12, and tertiary educational environments.
  • Serving a global clientele, with projects completed in 23 countries across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
  • Employing over 250 professionals across offices in Dubai, Riyadh, and Valencia.

The company has worked with leading educational groups and ministries, embedding pedagogy, sustainability, and regional context into every project.

Charlotte describes Kidzink's mission as: “We don’t just design for children. We design with children in mind, constantly asking the questions others don’t think to ask.”

Launching Koda: Architecture for the Future of Learning

In 2022, Charlotte launched Koda (Kidzink Office of Design + Architecture), a sister firm to Kidzink that focuses on architectural innovation in educational spaces. Koda is driven by research, spatial psychology, and user-experience design.

Koda specializes in:

  • Designing learning environments based on evidence from neuroscience, pedagogy, and behavioral science.
  • Partnering with schools and governments to develop purpose-built campuses and masterplans.
  • Promoting a design ethos that sees architecture as a medium for cultural transformation in education.

Koda is known for its role in shaping spaces like Harrow International School Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Dubai British School Jumeira, Rashid and Latifa School, and many more, which have been nominated for international awards in architecture and educational design.

SB20 World Champion (Open Division) – 2020

In 2020, Charlotte made history by becoming the first female skipper to win the SB20 World Championship (Open Division). Her win was celebrated as a momentous achievement in competitive sailing, demonstrating the effectiveness of her calm, strategic style.

SB20 Women’s World Champion – 2024

In February 2024, she returned to the global stage, winning the SB20 Women’s World Championship in Dubai. Sailing under the UAE flag, her team included Olympic gold medalist Pippa Kenton-Page, along with Artem Basalkin and Gonçalo Lopes.

Her team was noted for their tactical consistency, low-risk sailing, and flawless coordination, securing the championship without winning a single race. Her achievement was recognized in the sailing community as historic, and she was dubbed "The Iron Lady of Dubai" by Sail World.

Charlotte also competed in the 2025 SB20 Worlds in Singapore, continuing her legacy as a role model in international sailing.
