Thoughts on Wikipedia
[edit]As a reader, the general quality of Wikipedia is pretty bad, and there's clearly some weird stuff going on behind the scenes. On the other hand everyone uses it sometimes and it's obviously not going anywhere. As an editor, "Kafkaesque" is the first word that comes to mind. If you have a certain kind of personality it can quickly become a purposeless addiction/timesuck/variable reinforcement loop. OTOH sometimes it's fun or it makes you feel like you're making a difference in a positive way. And maybe your life situation is such that you need something relatively benign to vacuum up large quantities of time...
Thoughts on the real world
[edit]I think of myself as a centrist liberal. Wikipedia probably has more influence on my political opinions than it should.
