The beginning of the NPAJ
The National Powerlifting Association of Jamaica Limited (NPAJ) was conceived following a phone call on October 7, 2020, when Michael Blair's friend sparked the idea of starting a Powerlifting Association. Intrigued by the concept, Blair embarked on thorough research, discovering the sport's existence. Subsequently, a steering committee named Powerlifting Jamaica was formed on November 20, 2020, by Michael Blair which consisted of key individuals like Alex Sibley, Richard Radcliffe, Marlon Brown, Mikhail Johns, Joan King, Dr. Ramon Hunter, Gregory Gibson, Ricardo Panton, and Noel Brown.
On December 11, 2020, the Companies Office of Jamaica officially approved the name "The National Powerlifting Association of Jamaica Limited" for the organization. The newly established association wasted no time and held its first election of officials on December 19. The election took place under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Christopher Samuda, the President of the Jamaica Olympic Association at the Mona High School Library.
The elected officials of NPAJ included Michael Blair as President, Alex Sibley as 1st Vice President, Richard Radcliffe as 2nd Vice President, Marlon Brown as Secretary General, Joan King as Treasurer, and Directors Mikhail Johns and Ricardo Panton. This marked the official formation and leadership structure of The National Powerlifting Association of Jamaica Limited, setting the stage for the growth and promotion of powerlifting in Jamaica.
