The Tate Ski Club is a co-operative based in Guthega, Australia. It began in 1952 as the Snowy Mountains Authority Ski Club.[1]

The club's annual downhill race, the Tate Race, began in 1954.[2]

In 1955, following the completion of the Guthega Dam a cottage vacated by people who had worked on dam was leased to the Tate Ski Club, with two other buildings also given to other clubs in the area.[3] All other buildings used by dam workers were demolished.[4]

In 1958, the club developed a rope tow on the Tate East Ridge, which was extended multiple times throughout the 1960s.[3] The rope tow was damaged when it was hit by lightning in 1965.[1] In the late 60s, the location was designated a wilderness area and the rope tow was removed.[3]

In 1961, the Tate Ski Club assisted in the founding of the UNSW Ski Club by allowing them to use to use their lodge as accomodation.[5]

By 1969, the club changed its name to the Tate Ski Club[6] after the nearby Mount Tate.[7]

In 1970, the club had 100 members. At the time, most members were part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority, with some from Canberra and Sydney. While annual subscription was only $7,[8] members were required to purchase $100 of shares in the club.[7]

A new lodge for the club was built in 1970, officially opened by William Hudson.[9] The lodge included 18 beds, a log fire, electric kitchen, lounge, and rumpus room.[8]

In 1973, the club raised money for a member selected by the Australian Ski Federation to train in Europe and the United States.[10]

In 1976, the club hosted the Balmain Cup,[11] where they placed fourth.[12]

In 1979, Jim Box won the the KAC Martini-Rossi tour while representing the Tate Ski Club.[13]
