The Amerivision Song Contest 2014 was the fifty-ninth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Ecuavisa. The edition was hosted in the Coliseo General Rumiñahui, in Quito, Ecuador, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition.
This was the first edition after Argentina joined Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States as the automatically qualified countries to the final, expanding the Big 4 to a Big 5.
Host picking
[edit]Six ecuatorian venues showed interest in hosting the contest, no shortlisting was made for this edition, and Quito was announced as the host city in the day the shortlisting was supposed to be revealed.

Participating countries
[edit]This contest saw the debut of Dominica in the contest, after two failed attempts to debut in the contest. It also saw the return of Greenland to the contest after a one-year absence, and the withdrawal of Belize and Panama, with Panama citing a one year break from the contest to reestructure its delegation. Belize did not specify the reason for its withdrawal, but it's believed it was caused by a lack of funding from the broadcaster and the government to the delegation.

Contest overview
[edit]The countries were split between two semifinals, with the countries being drawn into pots to decide in which semifinal they'd go in in order to avoid block voting, with the automatically qualified countries, those being the big five nations, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States, as well as the host country Colombia. being split into which semi-finals they would vote. This was the first edition where the running order wasn't decided randomly, instead, the countries would be raffled into either the first or second half of a semi-final and the producers would get to decide the running order based on what was raffled.
