Japanese sources, even for Japanese speakers are hard to dealt with. These are major problems I often encounter while searching for suitable sources for Japanese article.
Paywalled
[edit]All high quality sources on Japanese articles are usually paywalled. For example, major publications such as The Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, The Nikkei for their Japanese-language sources (mainly news) are almost entirely paywalled. Even the english source like The Japan Times are often paywalled.
One way to circumvent this is using the English version of the article especially with The Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun one. But it is rarely have one.
2019 rule
[edit]One of the most frustrating part of sourcing Japanese articles are sources mainly on Japanese reliable sources prior or around 2019-or-so are mostly dead. One thing in common about them is that they all have http://
in their url instead of https://
. Although this is a common problem with other sources, Japanese ones are different on how recent they are.
One way to circumvent this is to use the sources already listed on the Japanese Wikipedia (link). But, we can use other sources existed back then but it is now dead.
