Potato Star 2025: The Movie is a 2025 Malaysian Malay-language jukebox musical comedy film directed by Faisal Ishak with story by Joel Soh who also produced the film and Kyle Goonting, head of production and development at Astro Shaw. Co-produced and distributed by Astro Shaw and Golden Screen Cinemas. The plot of the movie is taken from Singin’ in the Rain (1952), the film is official remake of the 2001 Filipino film Trip directed by Gilbert Perez.

The film ran its official photography for 81 days starting March 2025 to April 2025, including in Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Terengannu, including Cheras, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu. The film's soundtrack was composed by Guy Moon. With a runtime 134 minutes, Potato Star 2025: The Movie is one of the longest Malaysian films ever made scene Sheriff: Narko Integriti (2024), Polis Evo 2 (2018) and The Experts (2024).
Potato Star 2025: The Movie was theatrically released in Malaysia on 18 May 2025 in standard, IMAX, 4DX and Dolby Cinema. The film received huge positive reviews from critics and filmmaker for its direction, writing, casting, camera movement and plot twist.
Production
[edit]It was directed by Faisal Ishak, who had previously directed Aliff Dalam 7 Dimensi (2016), and Nizam Zakaria, Amar Amir, Fairul Nizam Ablah, Mufid Suhaimi, Azal Ezreen, Haida Mazni Mohammad and Kyle Goonting, who had written the script for Budak Hostel Otaknya Sewel (2023), Hai Cinta, Dengarkanlah (2024) and The Experts (2024).
Filming
[edit]Filming took place from March 2025 to April 2025 with help of the PLUS Malaysia Berhad. Filming locations including Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Redang Island, Terengganu, Shah Alam, Selangor, Seremban and Negeri Sembilan.

The music was a major hit among the audience, with the album becoming the best-selling Hollywood soundtrack of the year and second-most of the 2020s decade, with 12.5 million soundtrack album sales. The Soundtrack album released by Sony Music Malaysia on 13 May 2025.
