- ^ The only British force at Leipzig consisted of around 200 men of the Rocket Brigade attached to the Army of the North. Its commander, Captain Richard Bogue, was killed in action during the assault on Paunsdorf.
- ^ Nominal Supreme Commander. Schwarzenberg was the de facto Commander-in-Chief.
- ^ Two corps of the Young Guard (Oudinot and Mortier), one Guard Cavalry corps (Nansouty) and several divisions of Guard artillery and Old Guard infantry, all under Napoleon's direct command.
- ^ The Haitian slave rebels initially offered their services to the Spanish, but after the National Convention officially abolished slavery, most declared their loyalty to the French Republic and fought against the Spanish and British until 1798, when the Haitian Revolution developed into a civil war.
