This page isn't particularly pretty by my standards, but it will suffice until I find myself saddled with hours of free time (as if that could happen anytime soon).
About me
[edit]I'm author of The Necktie Repository and UNIX Unleashed IRIX FAQ (ISBN 0672312050), among other things. I like taking pictures (I've submitted some), and I take horse event pictures as a diversion from programming computers (my day job) and contributing to Wikipedia.

I'm an amateur radio operator, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, a resident of Apex, North Carolina, and a recovering Wikipediaholic. I have attended Randolph School ('91), The University of Alabama in Huntsville ('97), and North Carolina State University where I worked on a masters degree in computer science with emphasis on software engineering.
I've participated in Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, the National Space Society, and The Association for Computing Machinery.
I see the Apollo program as a moment of collective civic transcendence, and Wikipedia as a modern effort of similar scope—distributed, imperfect, but driven by a shared will to illuminate and preserve.

Philosophy and Style
[edit]I treat Wikipedia as both a civic archive and a repair mechanism—a way to scaffold truth where silence once prevailed. My edits favor clarity, structure, and historical fidelity over stylistic embellishment. Most of my contributions aim to document engineering achievements, underrecognized public systems, and the stories behind artifacts. I lean toward content over conflict, prefer accurate captions to exhaustive trivia, and strive for durable work rather than reactive edits.

My photography
[edit]Misc
[edit]HTML Entity Names can be useful for formatting.
I used to keep Template:Opentask up to date with captions needing attention and keep an eye on Wikipedia:Tomorrow's featured article to see that it has good captions, but now I let others see about that.
I often find myself helping others set up their computers, and I have a little checklist of the /Basic computer setup for Windows machines.
I also upload pictures to Commons and categorize things over there so they can be found for Wikipedia articles.
Why I'm Not an Admin
[edit]While I occasionally revert vandalism or report issues, my focus has always been content creation, not community governance. Adminship requires time and attention that, when I have it, I would rather spend improving articles or building scaffolding for others to do so. That said, I deeply appreciate those who take on that work and keep the project running.
