Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football Club II (English: His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Brunei Football Club II; abbrev: DPMM II or sometimes called DPMM (BSL) is the reserve team of DPMM FC, playing in the Brunei Super League.

History

[edit]

Mahkota United (2002)

[edit]

Back in 2002, DPMM FC established a junior feeder team named Mahkota United padded with several international players to compete at the DPMM FC Invitational Cup held in April–May of that year. Among the youngsters who played for Mahkota United at the tournament were Azman Ilham Noor, Rodrigo Prieto and George O'Callaghan. They reached the final of the tournament, where they were beaten 5–1 by the senior side courtesy of an Ajayi Oluseye hat-trick.

Reformation in the domestic league (2019–2020)

[edit]

In the 2019 Brunei Premier League season, DPMM entered a youthful team as a brand-new member of the league, thus re-entering domestic competition for the first time since their departure for the Malaysia Premier League in 2005. Their ranks were boosted by three senior players which were Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman, Azim Izamuddin Suhaimi and Azwan Ali Rahman.

After nine games including the final match against contenders Tabuan Muda, the team became the champions of the league and wom promotion to the Brunei Super League before a league restructuring by NFABD meant that the top tier was expanded to 16 teams in the 2020 season.

DPMM II played only two games in the league after it commenced due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. When football resumed in 2021, the first team elected to play domestically, disbanding the reserve team once again.

Current iteration (2024–)

[edit]

DPMM FC's first team re-entered the Singapore Premier League in the 2023 season, thus vacating their place in the top tier of the Brunei league system of that year. At the start of the 2024–25 Brunei Super League, DPMM entered a team consisting of their under-20 players who won the Brunei Youth League Under-20 earlier in the year, captained by the chairman's son, Prince Abdul Muntaqim.
