👤 About Me

[edit]

Hi, I’m Jacob Awity (they/them), a Gender Non-Conforming LGBTQ+ Rights Activist and community organizer based in Nairobi, Kenya. I am deeply committed to promoting equality, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ individuals especially in contexts of displacement, housing insecurity, and marginalization.

Over the years, I have worked and volunteered with several grassroots and national organizations including Refugee Trans Initiative, Kenneth and Jacob's House, Resilient Hearts Africa, and Pride Umbrella Kenya. My activism focuses on housing rights, policy advocacy, and community empowerment, with a strong emphasis on creating inclusive shelter systems for LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers.

I bring experience in project management, public speaking, event organizing, and strategic development. I also contribute to Wikipedia with a passion for closing content gaps around queer African experiences, refugee realities, and gender-diverse narratives that are often overlooked in mainstream documentation.

Let's build knowledge, justice, and visibility together one edit at a time.
