Transgression is a stage drama written by American playwright and TV drama writer Terry Curtis Fox (born 1948). Its first preview will be July 10, 2025; the official opening will be July 18, 2025, both at HERE Arts Center's Sublet Series located in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan at Hudson Square (145 Avenue of the Americas, between Spring and Broome Streets).[1]
The play
[edit]The play explores complex themes through morally challenging characters, notably "Norman," whose disturbing traits and actions form a central element of the narrative. It received attention for its bold treatment of sensitive social issues and its psychologically intense portrayal of controversial characters. The play is directed by filmmaker Avra Fox‑Lerner, daughter of the writer. This play marks her debut as a director.[1]
Synopsis
[edit]According to Time Out (July 2, 2025), Transgression centers on the widow of a renowned photographer, Norman (played by James Jelkin), who died in 2010. She uncovers a previously unknown collection of her late husband's work – artistically impressive but also deeply troubling nude photographs of a woman who was underage when they were taken. Upon discovering them, the now-adult subject demands their destruction, forcing the widow to grapple with the tension between preserving artistic merit and honoring moral accountability.[2][3]
