I am a Malaysian scholar at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). My interests encompass contemporary politics and history. My journey as a Wikipedia editor began on September 18, 2015, from which I have made over 1600 edits. My contributions to editing pertain to subjects in which I am passionate, amongst which include football, history, politics, and Islam.

Personal life

[edit]

Born in Selangor to a Malay family rooted in Malaysian politics, I descend from the bloodline of Megat Terawis, the inaugural Bendahara of Perak and progenitor of the Megat bloodline. My grandfather, Dato' Megat Jaafar, inherited the title of Orang Kaya Besar Maharaja Diraja - one of the Orang Besar Empat serving the Sultan of Perak; a title equivalent to a Duke in European peerages. His father before him, Dato' Megat Yunus, preceded the title, though he was more politically active, being a founder of UMNO Perak alongside Panglima Bukit Gantang, the first Menteri Besar of Perak.

Politics

[edit]

Throughout my youth, I had instilled a profound interest in the politics of Malaysia alongside the fields of history and political science. My passion was greatly owed to my father, who himself was a grassroots leader within the UMNO Youth. Like many others, he had left UMNO in the aftermath of Reformasi in 1998, having stood in struggle with Anwar Ibrahim who was judicially persecuted and made political prisoner by the disgraced Mahathir Mohamad. That pivotal moment shaped my family's political tradition, one grounded in reformism, anti-corruption and a strong adherence to conservative values.

My own political beliefs lean towards the traditional right: I adhere to paternalistic conservatism, Malay nationalism, and Islamism. Economically, my views diverge from the archetypal pro-business stance of many modern conservatives. Rather, my strand of conservatism undertakes an economically nationalist, statist, autarkic, and populist approach, mirroring the wider collectivist nature of Malay society. This includes a fundamental scepticism of individualism, lassez-faire economics, corporate trusts and monopolies.

My outlook is influenced by a diverse array of leaders from both past and present. From the Islamic world, great inspiration is drawn from figures like Anwar Ibrahim, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Amin al-Husseini, Muhammad al-Fatih, and Salahuddin al-Ayyubi. On the Western front, the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Oswald Mosley and Otto von Bismarck hold great reverence for me in view of their distinctive approaches to politics and statecraft.

Football

[edit]

From an early age, I have been passionate about football and followed a variety of clubs over the years. Though many factors spark an affinity for a team, it is oftentimes their storied culture and seasoned history that draw me in. Accordingly, this passion led me to support popular historical clubs growing up, including my country's own Selangor FC along with the one and only Manchester United. Meanwhile, my distaste is reserved against clubs that are overly corporate or tainted by corruption, such as Manchester City and local rivals Johor Darul Ta'zim. Below is a list of the teams I currently support:

Favourite quotes

[edit]

Listed below are some of my favorite quotes from famous figures, most of whom are political, religious, and military leaders, and showcase a presentation of the beliefs and values I uphold:

“I have been given the authority over you, and I am not the best of you. If I do well, help me; and if I do wrong, set me right. Sincere regard for truth is loyalty and disregard for truth is treachery. The weak amongst you shall be strong with me until I have secured his rights, if God wills; and the strong amongst you shall be weak with me until I have wrested from him the rights of others, if God wills. Obey me so long as I obey God and His Messenger. But if I disobey God and His Messenger, you owe me no obedience. Arise for your prayer, God have mercy upon you."

“I will be harsh and stern against the aggressor, but I will be a pillar of strength for the weak."

"The weakest man is the one who is able to correct his moral defects, but doesn't take action. "

"The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers."

"People can harp upon issues of race or religion, to me, it's completely irrelevant. It's a way and attempt by political leaders to disguise and hijack the central issues of governance in this country. They are going to appeal to the race, including the Malays, that their position, their power base is challenged."

"Whatever our Lord says, whatever our beloved Prophet says, we shall follow that path."

“Your nafs is your first battlefield. If you are victorious over it, then you will find the other battlefields easier.”
