Dr. Ch. Mohana Vamsy
[edit]Dr. Ch. Mohana Vamsy is a prominent Indian surgical oncologist and the founder of Omega Hospitals, a leading cancer care network headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. With over three decades of clinical and academic experience, he is recognized for his contributions to cancer treatment and oncology research in India.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Dr. Vamsy completed his MBBS from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, in 1985. He pursued an M.S. in General Surgery at JIPMER in 1990 and an M.Ch. in Surgical Oncology at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai, in 1993. He later obtained a DNB in Surgery from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, in 1994.
In 2009, he was awarded the FRCS in Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and earned a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the University of Strasbourg, France.
Career
[edit]Dr. Vamsy began his professional career as a Senior Resident in Surgery at JIPMER in 1990 and served in various capacities, including:
- Registrar in Oncology – Cancer Institute, Adyar (1991–1993)
- Reader in Oncology – Kasturba Medical College, Manipal (1993–1994)
- Asst. Professor of Oncology – MNJ Institute of Oncology, Hyderabad (1994–1999)
- Head, Department of Oncology – Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad (1999–2002)
- Director & Chief Oncologist – Indo-American Cancer Institute, Hyderabad (2002–2010)
In 2010, he founded Omega Hospitals, with the goal of providing comprehensive and affordable cancer care in India. Under his leadership, the hospital expanded to multiple locations including Banjara Hills and Gachibowli in Hyderabad, as well as branches in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
