James Surenne (c. 1835 - 27 August 1902) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was the artist and teacher Daniel Ferdinand Surenne (5 July 1803 - 8 May 1861)[5][6]

His mother was Jessie Rule (c. 1807 - 30 June 1879). Daniel and Jessie married on 23 August 1829 in Edinburgh.

James Gabriel Surenne was born c. 1835 in Edinburgh.

He became a dental surgeon.

He married Elizabeth Anne Goalen (c. 1838 - 7 June 1907) from Laurencekirk in Kincardineshire. They married on 6 September 1865 in Edinburgh.[7]

He died on 27 August 1902 at Kennoway in Fife.[8]

James and his wife Elizabeth are buried in Kennoway cemetery.[9]
