William Shiels (4 December 1783 - 20 August 1857) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was Thomas Shiels (7 December 1764 - 1793) from Lauder in Berwickshire.

His mother was Agnes Dove (1755 - 1829), baptised in Berwickshire.

William Shiels was born on 4 December 1783 in Westruther in Berwickshire. He had a twin brother Thomas.[3][4]

He died at 58 Broughton Street, Edinburgh on 20 August 1857.[5]
