Abhisht Kusum Gupta

Abhisht Kusum Gupta is an Indian environmental activist, finance professional, and founding member of Volunteers137[1], a citizen-led pressure group known for its work in environmental advocacy and public interest campaigns Haryana, Delhi,Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand provinces of India. His efforts have played a critical role in protecting water bodies, combating river pollution, and influencing environmental policies at the grassroots level.

Abhisht Kusum Gupta was born in India and pursued his higher education in finance and accounting. He holds professional qualifications in Chartered Management Accountant from Chartered Institute ofManagement Accountants(CIMA)[2], UK, Certified Public Accountancy (CPA)[3] from Australia, and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)[4] from ICFAI, India. Gupta's dual focus on finance and environmental justice[5] [6]reflects his interdisciplinary commitment to sustainability and governance.

Prevention of Water Pollution[10]: Led a mass protest to stop the discharge of nearly 500 million litres per day (MLD)[11] [12]of sewage and industrial waste into the Hindon River[13] [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27]and Kondli Drain[28][29][30][31][32][33][34], which feed into the Yamuna and Ganga rivers.

Wetlands and Water Bodies Restoration[35][36][37]: Instrumental in the protection and revival of 1,031[38] water bodies falling within three Tehsils of Gautambudhnagar naming Jewar, Dadri and Sadar with 20% or 211[39] waterbodies stand encroached.

Mandakini River Awareness[40][41][42]: Campaigned against pollution in the Mandakini River, raising awareness about the degradation caused by unregulated tourism, encroachments, and untreated sewage.

Plastic Ban Movement[43][44][45]: Advocated for a ban on single-use plastics through community engagement and local policy advocacy.

His environmental work has had a direct impact on over 71 million[46] residents living in the affected river basin areas, improving both public health and biodiversity preservation.
