Tum is a village in southwestern Ethiopia.
It was the former administrative centre for the Maji region and contains a small airport with a grass runway which is an important transport link for the area. In 2000, the population was estimated at 1,200.[1]
Geography and Economy
[edit]Tum is a village situated in the Maji woreda of the West Omo Zone, within the South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region. Positioned on the Boma Plateau, Tum lies at an elevation of approximately 1,430 meters above sea level. The village is located near the Omo National Park, a significant protected area known for its biodiversity. Tum serves as a local administrative center and is connected to other regions via the Tum Airport, which facilitates transportation and access to this remote area. The economy of Tum and its surrounding areas is primarily based on subsistence agriculture, with local communities engaging in farming and livestock rearing.[2][3]
