The Weekend

The Weeknight is a weeknight progressive political talk program broadcast on MSNBC. The program is hosted by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend, and Michael Steele and airs at 7:00pm ET for two hours on Mondays and an hour on Tuesdays through Fridays. It initially began as an extension of the similarly named weekend talk showThe Weekend, when its original anchors were moved to weeknight primetime.

The Weeknight is co-branded with The Weekend, which formerly maintained the same hosting team as a part of MSNBC's weekend programming.

History

[edit]

Following MSNBC's revamp of its weekend and weekday schedules, The Weekend's original three anchors, Menendez, Sanders-Townsend, and Steele were moved to the primetime slot vacated by the cancellation of former MSNBC anchor and commentator Joy Reid's show, The ReidOut at 7:00pm ET.[1]

The Weeknight debuted on May 5, 2025, from Studio N5 at NBC News’ Washington, D.C., bureau near Capitol Hill.[2][3]

Format

[edit]

The Weeknight and both editions of its sister programs,The Weekend and The Weekend: Primetime, roughly follow the same format as each other – featuring roundtable discussions and interviews with the show's anchors and then with key newsmakers and politicians. The show also features commentary from the anchor team.
