Adaptations
[edit]In December 2023, The Watch House was adapted for the stage by Olivier Award-winning theatre-maker Chris Foxon. This adaptation premiered at the Laurels Theatre in Whitley Bay and was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in January 2024. The play reimagines Robert Westall's novel for contemporary audiences, highlighting its enduring themes of isolation, supernatural intrigue, and adolescent resilience.[2][3] Critics have lauded The Watch House for its atmospheric storytelling and depth. A review from Bibliotropic praised the novel as a "well-done ghost story" that doesn't shy away from deep thought and contemplation, treating its young audience with maturity and realism.
