"The Grandma Bandit" is a 1959 British television play.[1]
Plot
[edit]A bored lady staying with her daughter and her husband decides to commit robberies.
Cast
[edit]- Ronald Lewis
- Olga Lindo
- Mary Peach
Reception
[edit]The Manchester Evening News called it "a gently amusing play."[2]
The Daily Telegraph felt "the script was implausible but not in a way that was amusing even with a good deal of overacting. Ronald Lewis put an enormous effort into the part of a contented young man whose peace of mind is shattered."[3]
Controversy
[edit]Following the broadcast of the play, a Welsh housewife, Phyllis Williams, robbed a store with a plastic toy pistol. She claimed she got the idea after watching The Grandma Bandit telling the court "It looked so easy that I thought I would try it."[4]
