Teresa Adams (c. 1869 –1947) was an American civil rights activist and suffragist.[1]
Biography
[edit]Adams was born in Keokuk, Iowa, about 1869, and moved with her sister to Davenport, Iowa, in 1895.[1]
She was African-American and joined civil rights organizations, including the Toussaint L'Ouverture Club.[2] In 1914, when the Iowa Association of Colored Women’s Clubs (IACWC), later known as the Iowa Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, established a standing suffrage committee Adams was its leader. She travelled throughout Iowa to give speeches on behalf of the committee.[2]
Adams died in Manteno, Illinois, in 1947.[1]
