Origin of Thatta

[edit]

Can somebody explain the origin of Thatta and its ancient History? burdak (talk) 09:04, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

World Heritage

[edit]

Thatta is not on the world heritage site. The earlier name was historical monuments of Thatta was slightly incorrect and the government changed the name in 2009 to Historical Monuments at Makli, Thatta to define the exact world heritage site. Also the Shah Jahan Mosque in the city is separately listed on the tentative list since 1993 - see here. The mosque mentioned in the listing is at Dabgir which can be seen here Rzafar (talk) 07:41, 10 February 2011 (UTC) Mr Ali Gul Memon 03113324368 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.255.4.64 (talk) 18:46, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

James Tod is not a reliable source of historical information about India. I am removing the section that cites Tod and a book by author Najbhai Vala, the former president of the Kathi Kshatriya society of Gujarat. At the end of Vala's book, writer Nanabhai H. Jablia pays tribute to the author: "Najbhai Harsurbhai Wala...is a stalwart of the caste....I have witnessed in many ways that he has always kept the works of caste-individual and collective good in mind. " The book is a pro-Kathi caste compilation of historical references written for an audience of caste members; for them, it provides a community history; for us, it is not a reliable source.

Per Senapatiji, Vala claims that "In the bardic tradition, the Vala rulers are associated with the birad, or blessing, of "Tatta Multan ka Rao" (Lords of Thatta and Multan), a title that underscores their historical ties to these locations." There is nothing about the "bardic tradition" in Vala; he refers only to "Arab travelers" at the start of this paragraph. Also per Senapatiji, "Rao" is a title that has since been abolished by the Indian constitution [1], [2], [3] - so the information is outdated for this article.
