It has been suggested that this article be merged with SGGS. This cannot be done as the Sikhs have more than just the SGGS as their scriptures. Although the SGGS is the main one and the perpetual Guru, the other like the Dasam Granth, Bhai Gurdas Varan, Kabits, etc. various Huknanmanas of the Gurus are also covered here. I have removed this tag from the article. This article needs to be expanded. --Hari Singh 00:36, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it true that SGGS is the only scripture fully compiled during its author's lifetime? I don't know of a counterexample. Ironically, many non-Mormons would consider the Book of Mormon to qualify, but Mormons themselves claim that it is a translation of ancient texts. 76.226.65.41 16:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Sikh scriptures/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

I would like to comment on one statement in this page.

"This Granth is the only world religious scripture which was compiled during the life time of its founder. All other world scriptures were compiled many years after the death of the prophet."

I dont have any comments on Sikh founder , but ISLAM was also the one of the religion , where Quran was compiled before the death of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). You can verify this any fact anywhere.

Some things just grow during incremental edits and sometimes get out of hand. The "External links" section, one of the optional appendices, has grown to 10 entries. Three seems to be an acceptable number, and of course, everyone has their favorite to try to add for a fourth. Consensus needs to determine this. Left three random for any possible discussion, exchange, etc...
However, none is needed for article promotion.
Some links may be included in WP:ELNO, WP:NOTREPOSITORY, WP:ELDEAD, or WP:NOTGUIDE. Others, listed below:
  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • ELMIN: Minimize the number of links. --
  • ELCITE: Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section.
External links This page in a nutshell: External links in an article can be helpful to the reader, but they should be kept minimal, meritable, and directly relevant to the article. With rare exceptions, external links should not be used in the body of an article.
Second paragraph, acceptable external links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy.
    • Please also note:
  • WP:ELBURDEN: Disputed links should be excluded by default unless and until there is a consensus to include them. Please do not add back more than three or four links without consensus.
