What kind of information on each council?

[edit]

What kind of information should we have on each council in Kansas? I think that we should try to have the same type of information (summer camps, areas/cities served, districts, OA lodge, Mic-O-Say, etc) but also not be afraid to include unique categories for each council.

I think you're on the right path, there, Paul! Chris 05:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion

[edit]

Please visit and vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tribe of Mic-O-Say (2nd nomination), it was recently vandalized, and unknowing editors thought it was meant to be an attack piece. Chris 05:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article structure

[edit]

Is it intentional that the article reads like Scouting in Kansas = Scouting America and then GSUSA is tacked on at the end? I would propose an introductory blurb detailing the beginnings of all scouting movements in the state, and then section headings for each organization ordered by first the establish in the state. Thoughts? I don't have much expertise on the orgs, but we're also missing Camp Fire, Trail Life, etc. Thebumblefumble (talk) 22:41, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've rearranged a bit to make clearer what is common and what is separate. Camp_Fire_(organization) is a youth group with similar aims to Scouting and a history connected to the BSA but isn't generally considered part of the Scouting. Trail Life USA is, like Camp Fire, a scout like organization. I'm not sure there is a firm rule but non-aligned scouting groups are usually included in these articles but not scout-like, mostly, I suspect, because there are so many of the latter. I think they can be mentioned in the history if in connection to Scouting groups in Kansas (for instance did the creation of Trail Life or American Heritage affect either BSA or GSUSA by lost of membership or significant adult leadership?; was/is Camp Fire a major competitor?). Reliable sources would be needed. Erp (talk) 14:48, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GSKSMO

[edit]

GSKSMO is a council split across two states. More importantly, it's the Kansas City metro council. I think it is somewhat unreasonable that information is split by state for this council across two articles. I think that we should include all information about the council on both pages, but prioritize the information to the state whose article the reader is on.

For example: There are two active properties in the council. One in Tonganoxie, KS and one in KC, MO. Formerly, only the Tonganoxie one was on this article and only the KC one was on the Scouting in Missouri article. Instead, both should be on both, but on this article the Tonganoxie property should be first and on the other one the KC property should be listed first.

Larned Central States Scouts Museum

[edit]

I've removed the Central States Scouts Museum from the article as I couldn't find any current website about it and it seems to have been hit with a devastating fire in 2016. https://www.gbtribune.com/news/local-news/pawnee-co-news-/larned-central-scouts-museum-burned/ Erp (talk) 14:53, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
