Clemency

"Clemency was refused first by Home Secretary Henry Brooke and then by the Queen". Surely the position was that if the Home Secretary refused a reprieve it never got as far as the Queen.

The wording was indeed a bit unclear, but it could also mean that there were two separate appeals for clemency, first to the Home Secretary and then to the Queen. Hard to say without actual citations. Jah77 (talk) 09:51, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
