Old English Bird Names

[edit]

Link to Ref. 3 (Old English bird names) is broken. John Trapp (talk) 00:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The page has moved. I've corrected the link, but it only goes to a place-holder at the moment, saying the site is being updated. This is a cached version of the associated article, but Google does not have a cache of the list. No doubt the updated version of the page will be up soon. Thanks for the quick action, Richard! John Trapp (talk) 02:00, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

T. t. amicorum

[edit]

The reference cited for this (Hartert 1910) is incorrect; it should be Die Vogel der palaarktischen Fauna Nachtrag (supplement): 57 (1923). I've not been able to find a copy of this online (may still be in copyright?); BHL don't have it, only vols. 1-3 of the main set. Can anyone trace a copy? Pinging @Jimfbleak: who added the reference - MPF (talk) 01:24, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hathitrust have a scan but I cannot access it (from France): https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/102850657
A search for "amicorum" gave page 57 which agrees with the above. Ernst Hartert died in 1933 - ie more than 70 years ago so the book is no longer in copyright. - Aa77zz (talk) 06:32, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The volume is no longer under copyright in the US as it was published more than 95 years ago, and as Ernst Hartert died in 1933 - more than 70 years ago - the volume is no longer under copyright in Europe. I've written to HathiTrust - but don't expect a reply. - Aa77zz (talk) 06:58, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I received a polite reply from the HathiTrust which included: "Unfortunately, we don’t currently have the resources to evaluate materials individually to determine whether they should be opened based on whether the copyright was renewed or the author’s death date." It was worth a try. - Aa77zz (talk) 16:21, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MPF and Aa77zz:, I'm guessing that I took the citation from zoonomen or similar, I don't have access Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:01, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
According to Peters Vol 10 (Mayr) Turdus torquatus amicorum Hartert 1923 was a replacement name for Merula torquata orientalis Seebold, which was pre-occupied - see here.
I've replaced the cite in the article with a cite to the "Nachtrag I" volume - without a link as I cannot find a scan. - Aa77zz (talk) 12:27, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I did suspect it might be a nom. nov. for M. t. orientalis as Hartert had given that name in Vol. 1 of Die Vogel..., but I didn't have the proof of it . . . MPF (talk) 21:25, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
