Common Riding
[edit]A Common Riding, sometimes known as a "riding", would appear to involve both horse riding and the bounds of a district... I have no idea as to its etymology but I will put it in the latter category for now. Ben MacDui 07:50, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- I would have assumed the other etymology, but can't offer any proof. Lavateraguy (talk) 22:12, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

According to Wikinav more than a third of outgoing pageviews go Riding (division), the second highest amount of views goes to Electoral district (Canada) which is a subset of the other topic. Altogether these two topics make up 2/3rds of the outgoing page views. Of the other topics listed none are known as simply 'riding' to my knowledge Traumnovelle (talk) 01:41, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, no primary topic. Per the nominator, Riding (division) does not even get a majority of the pageviews, and I don't see a long-term notability argument either. 162 etc. (talk) 04:12, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Electoral district (Canada) (in this context) is a subtopic of Riding (division). Combined they receive the most views. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:54, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Electoral district (Canada) is not a subtopic of Riding (division). It is an individually notable topic with its own article. 162 etc. (talk) 05:14, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- In the context of this disambiguation page it is a subset of riding (division). Traumnovelle (talk) 05:24, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- That is not how WP:PT1 works at all. 162 etc. (talk) 05:40, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Then why does Electoral district have the primary topic when Electoral district (Canada) has more pageviews? [1]
- The practice for article titling is the broad overview article occupies the primary topic/title whilst subsets have disambiguation (whether natural or parenthetical) applied. Traumnovelle (talk) 06:12, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- You certainly can't argue that Equestrianism belongs in a broad overview article about ridings. My opposition remains. No primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 14:05, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- People looking for equestrianism aren't looking for 'riding', they are looking for 'horse riding'. This dab page provides just 0.06% of the pages views versus 2.69% for riding (division) Traumnovelle (talk) 18:22, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose per 162 etc - the primary topic, if anything, would be the concept of riding an animal. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:32, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. Riding a horse is clearly just as notable by long-term significance. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:34, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
