Merge proposal

[edit]

I propose merging Kaplan University into Purdue University Global. I find it unusual for a university to be split into two articles - e.g. University of Arizona Global Campus, a very similar university, includes the history of the former Ashford University in its article (and not separately) wizzito | say hello! 00:16, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the suggestion but I worry that the size of the two articles may make it impractical to merge them into one. ElKevbo (talk) 02:17, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good suggestion. Not sure how that could be done. wizzito | say hello! 01:00, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I support this move. Jjazz76 (talk) 07:51, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The University of Arizona Global Campus article is not a good model for a high-quality encyclopedia entry. The majority of the content consists of trivia unrelated to the current institution. As a result, readers gain little insight into UAGC's present-day operations or the reasons students choose to attend. Also, the inclusion of numerous predecessor institutions results in inconsistencies regarding the founder and the founding date. I would suggest that that article not be used as a model for others. It makes sense to keep some history about Kaplan University in the Purdue University Global article for transparency, but merging the two together would be too confusing for readers. I also agree with @CommaCorrector that University of Arizona Global Campus article is not a good model for a well-organized, high-quality encyclopedia entry. The Kaplan University and Purdue University Global articles should remain separate. E.turr (talk) 18:41, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree: while it's true Purdue University Global was once Kaplan University, it didn't undergo a mere name change. Purdue University took what was a questionable for-profit school to buy the educational delivery system, and created a respected non-profit school. If company A buys company B, company B's history isn't somehow invalid or unnoteworthy 2600:1702:49F0:54E0:B831:C5AF:F02E:885F (talk) 09:17, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree, but for differing reasons: namely the attempt by parent institution Purdue University to merge together and unify distance learning courses from its varied offerings. ShawnIsHere: Now in colors 00:48, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving

[edit]

I changed the archive parameters on this page so it won't be blanked. The archive bot was added by an IP with only one edit.[1] The archive size set before was very small. I made it larger, and also condensed the existing archives so there isn't just two or three small topics per archive. This should make it a little easier to peruse the archives. The empty archives will fill up over time. I double-checked for any dead links this could cause; I found that there were no links to any archived topic, so that wasn't an issue.

The new parameters can be changed at any time by someone more familiar with this talk page. Cheers. Wizmut (talk) 22:21, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Need for Restructuring and Streamlining

[edit]

The structure of this article is a bit of a mess and that makes it longer and harder to read than need be. I invite editors to help me restructure and streamline it. For example, the "Campus Closing" section includes significant information not related to the heading. Another problem, there is significant use of dated and irrelevant financial information scattered throughout that isn't in the financial section.
