The lost "Third part"
[edit]end of plot summary: "The film had a third part, but it is lost, and few people know about it."
With no citation or evidence i found for this anywhere, this curious statement, not even a part of the plot itself, creates a false assumption that the director filmed more of this story for a third act of this film, or even another complete sequel; it is perhaps a clumsy attempt at paraphrasing a critical analysis wrongly, like this one:
- Despite promises of joint holidays and being together in three years’ time, they look far more life-defeated than at the end of Friends, and no sequel has ever appeared to suggest that their now-illusive happiness has been regained or separately found.
(this passage has a footnote referencing John Duigan's Australian 'trilogy' of young love, of which only 2 films were produced. See: https://www.sensesofcinema.com/2005/brief-encounters-35/friends_paul_michelle/ (a citation worth adding, imo)
better to conclude with "Even with promises to be together again, their fate and the rest of the story is uncertain." (which I will do unless contradictory advice comes.) Dano67 (talk) 21:35, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
