I'll review this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 17:49, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Earwig shows this page as a copyright violation, but checking the history convinces me that that page copied its text from Wikipedia, rather than the other way around.

Spotchecks (footnote numbers refer to this version:

  • FN 28 cites "the 10,000 arrested, 3,500 were held by authorities in detention; 556 resident aliens were eventually deported under the Immigration Act of 1918". Looks like "Of" is missing at the beginning of that sentence? I don't have access to this source; can you quote the supporting text?
  • FN 5 supports "Some people suffered injuries, including a housekeeper in Senator Thomas W. Hardwick's residence, who had her hands blown off." Can you quote the supporting text?
  • FN 23 supports "The Department of Justice at one point claimed to have taken possession of several bombs, but after a few iron balls were displayed to the press they were never mentioned again. All the raids netted a total of just four ordinary pistols." I see the information about the bombs, but I don't see the pistols mentioned. Can you give a more precise page range? Currently this citation is to 57 pages which is too many for a reader to be able to verify.

I'll continue with the review once these are resolved. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:13, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Footnote 28. The text and the source were put in before my involvement. Providing a quote will be problematic, wince I don't have the book either. 7&6=thirteen () 17:03, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Footnote 5 Not available any longer on line. You can blame the courts for stripping Internet archive of the available books. The text and the source were put in before my involvement. Providing a quote will be problematic, wince I don't have the book either. 7&6=thirteen () 17:20, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Footnote 23 The text and the source were put in before my involvement. Providing a quote will be problematic, since I don't have the book either.
I gather that I will have to try and find these books at the library in order for you to approve. Finding the time and finding a library (if any) that has the books and going to gather the information requested will take time and a lot of effort. 7&6=thirteen () 17:44, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I sympathize, but the GA criteria now require me to do spotchecks. Do you want to try WP:RX? If not, and you can't get access to those sources, I'm afraid I'd have to fail this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:30, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Christie Thank you for your input. I understand your position.
Are those all of the things you want verified? Or will there be the addition of every one of these footnotes and books?
If so, you can fail it now, because I don't want to track down 13 books and 43 footnotes. I don't care enough to engage in the Myth of Sisyphus. I have neither the time, energy nor interest in that undertaking.
So tell me the targets so I can make a reasoned decision.7&6=thirteen () 23:12, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If all three pass the spotcheck, that's the end of the spotcheck. If any fail, I'd ask for more. However, I have not yet looked at the sources to see if I have any questions about quality/reliability or to see if they are providing broad coverage. I might ask more questions about the sources at that point, but I can't say until I have time to look at them, and that won't be for at least a day or so. I think it's usually better only to nominate articles where you have access to the sources -- I see the last GA you nominated was before the spotcheck requirement was added so you may not have been aware this would come up. To be honest, I would suggest telling me to go ahead and fail this -- it's likely to be frustrating if you don't have the sources to hand. Thank you for the clarification. You are right that this is new to me. I can go to the local library, although I will be surprised that they have the materials. At least I know what my task is for now. I'll let you know. 7&6=thirteen () 00:23, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
7&6=thirteen, are you still planning to work on this? I can imagine you might need a bit more time if you're trying to obtain the books from your library. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 08:14, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it. 7&6=thirteen () 16:04, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, no problem. I'll check in again if I don't hear from you in a week or two. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:03, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@7&6=thirteen: For source availability, I've added a Google Books link for Avakov. Avrich is online and so is Post. Let me know if you need a hand pulling any hard-to-get source material for this. czar 12:03, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

7&6=thirteen, just checking in again as it's been a couple of weeks. I don't mind keeping this open for a bit if you're working on it -- let me know. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 21:35, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I have been ill. Going to library today to order books.

These will be interlibrary loans, and may take some time. 7&6=thirteen () 16:38, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No problem; hope you're better. Will check in again in early August. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:51, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
They are ordered. I don't know how long that will take to process, but I will let you know results ASAP. Thank you. 7&6=thirteen () 15:04, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
