Error
[edit]There is an error saying that small onions are “mot” pearl onions instead of “not”. 2600:1006:B31E:CC47:8CB4:E089:AC8D:AE3A (talk) 16:46, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, will fix it. Chiswick Chap (talk) 17:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Eye irritation section lacks ingested cause
[edit]Eye irritation is not caused purely by a gas when cutting onions. It may also be caused some time after eating them due to toxins in the bloodstream. The article could be improved by covering this and other irritations from ingesting onions rather than exposure to the gas produced when chopping. Ralph Corderoy (talk) 11:51, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Ralph Corderoy: Please use {{edit request}} per WP:ER and provide an inline citation per WP:REFB that supports the assertion. - UtherSRG (talk) 13:22, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- @UtherSRG: Hi, it looks like {{edit request}} is for protected pages which this is not. Ally methyl sulfide is a product of digesting onion, garlic, etc. It travels in the bloodstream through the body. 'Garlic breath' is this compound be exhaled from the lungs, which it has reached through the bloodstream, not any traces of garlic in the mouth. Similarly, the compound can irritate the eyes. I don't have time to research more thoroughly at the moment, else I'd edit the article, but I think the Talk page is for raising a deficiency so others may take up the task.
